Daily quarantine thought: Maundy Thursday

Anyone else having a tough time orienting to Holy Week? Or to time itself?

I admit I’d mostly forgotten about Maundy Thursday until I saw Kate Bowler’s reflection on Instagram.

If you don’t know Kate Bowler, she’s a Duke professor of theology who’s lived through the uncertainty of a terminal cancer diagnosis, an experience which informs her podcast, memoir, and now quarantine series.

This reflection on Maundy Thursday was exactly what I needed to hear. The TL;DR version? Maunday Thursday is about Jesus’s mandate to wash each other’s feet. But if you’ve changed a diaper, heated up soup for an aging parent, or even combed your dog’s matted fur today, I think that counts too.
